Knürr AG focuses on individual thermal management with Thermal Check-up
[KNÜRR AG, Arnstorf - Germany, March 16 2009]

The energy density of server technologies in use is constantly increasing;
energy-efficient cooling solutions are in big demand. Heat loads in data centers
are growing at an alarming rate and the problems they bring impair overall IT
availability. Knürr AG focuses here on individual consulting and testing with its
recently developed Knürr CoolScan, so that this development can be professionally
addressed and operating costs are kept from rocketing due to increased energy
requirements.
“CoolScan enables a quick and concise thermal check-up of all mechanical,
electrical and thermal conditions in the data center. The current actual situation
can therefore be quickly and transparently recorded and possible first immediate
activities can be started,” explains Marketing Director Werner Gropp.
With regard to purely physical matters, Knürr experts check the customer data
centers for energy efficiency and enable an immediately available and highly
competent brief analysis with infrared thermography. In addition to explanations on the current state of the data center, the visualization of temperature problems, consulting on possible corrective measures, and the introduction of an extensive thermal and energy efficiency audit are also included.

Tracking down energy losses
“Everything with a temperature above absolute zero (-273° C) emits infrared radiation. The higher the temperature, the more intensive the radiation. Knürr CoolScan’s task is to record this radiation via a detector and convert it into a visible image,” says Heiko Ebermann, Product Manager and designated thermal management expert at Knürr. The radiation received is converted into colors, whereby the various temperatures are assigned specific colors. Higher temperatures are shown in red; lower in shades of blue. The resulting color gradient ultimately provides the information on critical areas or intensive heat loss zones. Areas appearing in red on the thermo-photographs indicate heat bridges.
The Knürr CoolScan’s reliable analyses help to track down and remove thermal weak points, and therefore save more energy and money.
A detailed report complete with thermography images on the respective data media perfectly rounds off this service package, which is – in the form of a brief consulting – absolutely free of charge for IT-responsible people.
