The customer

Borealis Polyolefine GmbH, a subsidiary of OMV, is one of Europe's leading plastics manufacturers, headquartered in Vienna. The Schwechat site is a central plant for the company and plays a key role in the production of high-quality polyolefins.

The initial situation and objectives

The existing control room was technically and ergonomically outdated – numerous keyboards, improvised furniture, inefficient cabling and a lack of redundancy characterised everyday life.

Project objectives:

1. Technical modernisation with maximum system availability

2. Creation of ergonomic control room workstations

3. Integration of a central, responsive KVM solution

4. Complete solution from a single source without the need for a tender process

The solution

Thanks to the partnership between Knürr GmbH and kvm-tec (IHSE), a future-proof overall concept was realised – consisting of modular control room furniture, intelligent KVM technology and sophisticated integration.

This solution enabled the new control room to be designed ergonomically, clearly and with state-of-the-art technology. All KVM and visualisation components are optimally integrated and ensure reliable 24/7 operation.

Strategic importance

This project marks the start of a strategic partnership between Knürr GmbH and kvm-tec (IHSE). It was the first joint project in Austria in which kvm-tec acted as general contractor. The successful combination of ergonomic workstations, technology and visualisation demonstrates how powerful integrated control room solutions can be in an industrial environment.
