ESWE Traffic Control Centre

Modernisation of the control centre in Wiesbaden, Germany

The customer and the result

ESWE Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH in Wiesbaden relies on state-of-the-art technology and ergonomic control centre workstations to ensure optimal operational management. The modernised traffic control centre is the heart of the operational control and monitoring of over 40 bus routes in Wiesbaden. The team at the control centre ensures that public transport in the city continues to run smoothly even in the event of unforeseen incidents or disruptions. The control centre coordinates daily route operations, acts as the central point of contact in the event of unplanned incidents and communicates directly with drivers via radio and on-board computers. It is part of ESWE Verkehr's traffic monitoring system, which also includes traffic supervision and vehicle deployment. A total of 32 employees work here in shifts 365 days a year, around the clock, to ensure reliable local transport.

Together with Knürr GmbH, a solution was developed that combines comfort, efficiency and future-proofing.

The initial situation and challenge

After 15 years, ESWE Verkehr's control centre was technically outdated and no longer offered employees a modern working environment. Multiple keyboards and mice led to cluttered workstations, and there was also high noise pollution and limited visibility of the monitor wall.

Knürr® took on this challenge and worked with the customer to develop a new control centre that combines modern technology, ergonomics and occupational safety.

The result: workstations that integrate harmoniously into the existing premises, significantly increase ease of use and at the same time offer long-term expansion options.

Klaus-Peter Wollny

Operations Manager BOKraft at ESWE Verkehr

“We wanted a working environment that offers employees optimal
conditions – technically, ergonomically and acoustically.”

The Knürr solution

Knürr delivered a comprehensive solution for the control centre that was specially tailored to the requirements of ESWE Verkehr. The focus was on creating a modern and functional working environment.

Ergonomics and ease of use The four Knürr® Ergocon control centre desks formed the basis of the solution. These workstations are height-adjustable and promote healthy working. Operating comfort was significantly improved by the Knürr® Ergocontrol OPX system. It enables intuitive and simple control of workplace ergonomics, including height adjustment of the work and monitor levels. A KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) system also reduces the number of input devices to a single keyboard and mouse per workstation to operate multiple computers.

Centralised technology integration All cabling has been centralised and organised to simplify maintenance and ensure easy expandability. This creates clarity and reduces complexity.

Acoustics and lighting In addition, acoustic and lighting improvements have been made. Sound-absorbing elements reduce disturbing noises, while optimised workplace lighting aids concentration.

Installation and service The project was implemented precisely and flexibly, with change requests being taken into account at all times.

The result is a modern control centre that perfectly combines ergonomics, technology and design, enabling employees to work in a healthy and productive manner.

‘There is a wonderful atmosphere in the new control centre – you can work with much greater concentration.’

Klaus-Peter Wollny, Operations Manager at BOKraft, ESWE Verkehr

Marion Hebding

Managing Director of ESWE Verkehr

The control centre is the heart of Wiesbaden's bus transport system and performs extremely important work around the clock, every day of the year. Modernisation was urgently needed and posed a major challenge during ongoing operations. We are now delighted that employees not only have adequate space, but also modern, ergonomic working conditions.
